Blurred Vision During Pregnancy: Blurring Eyesight In Pregnant Women

Pregnancy is one of the most thrilling event in a woman’s life. Still, not all pregnancies occur without a hitch. Aside from experiencing the usual morning sickness, nausea, and dizziness; a pregnant woman could also experience other symptoms. Some of these are normal but others are not simply symptoms but could be signs of danger.

Blurred Eyesight During Pregnancy

  • Having blurred vision while pregnant could be a serious sign that something bad is going on.
  • Still, in most cases, this does not hold or shows danger but merely is a sign of pregnancy. This often occurs in early pregnancy when the body goes into hyperdrive to produce all the hormones needed.
  • Knowing the difference of the two could keep the woman’s mind at ease. For diagnosis, it is best to consult a doctor.
  • If the blurred vision is caused by a change in the prescription grade of the woman’s eyes, then it is inevitable. There is no need to request for new glasses as the grade could go back to its original level once the pregnancy is finished.

Sudden Blurring Vision In Pregnant Women

  • Sudden blurred vision could come along with the other symptoms. Some of these are the combination of the following:
    • Double vision
    • Spots
    • Floaters
    • Dry eyes
    • Eye irritation
    • Feeling of discomfort
    • Dimming of vision
    • The symptoms often go away on their own, especially when the woman has delivered the baby.
    • Still, there are times when the symptoms have to the watched closely, especially if the woman has a job that requires concentration or could be potentially hazardous.

Causes of Blurred Vision In Pregnancy

  • Hormones are the main culprit why women experience blurred vision anytime during pregnancy. Still, this is something that often occurs in the first few weeks, even before the woman knows that she is, indeed, pregnant.
  • It is also possible that the sudden changes in glucose levels brought about by gestational diabetes could be the reason why a woman experiences blurred eyesight.
  • Of course, high blood pressure is also another reason why this blurring of vision happens.
  • If the sudden blurring of vision occurs after a strenuous physical activity such as exercise, then there is a possibility that it is merely caused by dehydration.
  • However, blurred vision could also be a sign of danger – pre-eclampsia. This is very dangerous not only to the baby but to the mother as well.
